Anna Sewell

07 Nov 2010

My name is Lisa Davies I am a Volunteer Reporter for 96ktalkback I went and interviewed the owners of the Anna Sewell café near the Saint Nicholas Church. Anna Sewell lived there from 1820 till 1832, Anna wrote the novel Black Beauty the perfect horse every little girl and some boys dream of. When the series came out followed by the film, it immortalised Black Beauty forever.

Diane and Terry used to live in Cornwall and talked for two years before they took the lease over, they sold their own house as Diane and Terry loved the Anna Sewell café so much. They wanted to use the café as a café and not change anything about it. When you go in, its hard not to notice the lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff in a very nice and cosy setting.

Diane and Terry get help from family and a couple of volunteers who go in regularly and wanted to use the café when it was closed for meetings or other type of Group use. Diane and Terry want to try and get the community together and help people with all kinds of needs, or just want to talk.

They have a lovely cosy room upstairs which I m hoping to use on Wednesday afternoons for people with any type of drug problem or just need to chat. I am hoping to start as soon as possible as there is not a lot of help for people to talk openly so let’s try and help ourselves.

I will be there from 2 until 4 Every Wednesday as soon as I get the go ahead.

Diane and Terry just want to help as their son was in a coma for two years and Diane’s Nan has M S,

They have had a lot of people donating tables and chairs. A new artist has donated some lovely pictures his name is Ivan Rodgers and has done some decorating to help them, its well worth a visit should you be in the area.

Good Luck to Diane and Terry we all wish you well and great to hear there is still good people out there who really do care.
