A great example of true community radio coming from our neighbours in Suffolk
Blyth Valley Radio is an FM community radio station covering Southwold, Reydon and the surrounding area including Blythburgh, Walberswick, Wangford and Wrentham.
The station is run by members of the community, like you, for the members of the community. People from within the area of all age groups and backgrounds manage different aspects of the station. Anyone from within the community who would wish to be involved, can be involved. All posts are voluntary and the station is a non-profit making venture.
Now you can tune in across the East Suffolk Coast on 105 FM or click here to listen online.
Gt Yarmouth is set to have a new local radio station! Coastal Radio is to be launched at Easter to broadcast to Gt Yarmouth with relevance to all the community groups. It will voice local issues, and serve the local community in a similar way to this website, 96kTalkBack. It will function with the local residents in mind about local issues, with a mix of music and talk, 24 hours a day.
Coastal Radio is putting a team together who are passionate about Great Yarmouth and the surrounding area. They need local news, input of local issues, On Air staff, Community Reporters, an Administrator and an Outside Broadcast team, so if you are interested in being involved with this exciting project you can email john.rodgers@coastalradio.co.uk or simon.jones@coastalradio.co.uk or check out their website www.coastalradio.co.uk
Please note that the organisation is non-profit and those who help do so unpaid, nevertheless it is, of course, a unique opportunity for individuals to break into radio locally, and for Gt Yarmouth’s comuunity groups to air their voice on matters of concern, and more.
