PARTISAN APPROACH THREATENS BIG CASINO PROJECT
Following an acrimonious debate at the last Council Meeting in May and the subsequent refusal of the Ruling Conservative administration to restore a place for a Labour Councillor on the Casino Advisory Panel Labour Leader TREVOR WAINWRIGHT will announce tomorrow night that Labour Councillors on the Councils Licensing Committee will take no further part in the process that will decide the preferred Casino operator.
Cllr. Wainwright says "I am really disappointed that common-sense has not prevailed. I contacted the Leader of the Council last week in the hope of brokering a cross-party agreement. My approach was rejected out of hand and now sadly we have no option but to leave the decision-making entirely in the hands of the Conservatives".
The Regional Casino is a major regeneration project for the Borough the only site on the East coast to receive the go-ahead for a large Casino. Yarmouth Councillor Mick Castle did previously sit on the previous Advisory Panel alongside ex-Tory Leader Barry Coleman and previous Yarmouth Rector Michael Woods.
