Learning Courses for Families

Would you be interested in attending a Family Learning course?
What type of course would most interest you?    
All of the courses are FREE and a Crèche may be provided for your pre-school children!

    
Family Finance Course – Money Matters To Me!
This short course is for families who would like to gain a greater understanding of handling money, budgets and savings etc. A great fun way to improve your Numeracy with your child.    
     Dads and Lads
This is a course to encourage dads and lads to learn together and have fun using ICT, they can develop their literacy or Numeracy skills together.    

Family Literacy (normally 1 whole day per week for a term)
A 10 week course in which you can brush-up your own literacy skills and work towards a nationally recognised qualification while your children develop their own skills within a small group led by an Early Years Teacher.  Opportunities for families to work ‘together’ during joint sessions.    

Family Numeracy (normally 1 whole day per week for a term)
A 10 week course in which you can brush-up your own numeracy skills and work towards a nationally recognised qualification while your children develop their own skills within a small group led by an Early Years Teacher.  Opportunities for families to work ‘together’ during joint sessions.    

Family Arts
A creative course providing opportunities for you and your children to try out a range of art and craft activities in a safe and supportive learning environment.  Some of the activities could include: mosaic tiling, tie-dye, glass painting, Decoupage, card and paper crafts, clay modelling.    

Happy Families?
An 8 week course for parents/carers with children aged between 0–7 or 7-14 years.  This course provides opportunities for you to share experiences and views within a supportive and confidential group, discuss ways of building positive relationships and developing confidence and self-esteem.     

One Stop Parent Shop
A 2 hour “Happy Families?”  taster session for parents/carers.  This workshop will cover: the importance of play, positive role modelling and praise and encouragement.  Opportunities provided for you to discuss and share experiences within a supportive and confidential group.    

View & Tell It
A basic computing course providing opportunities for the family to use laptop computers and digital cameras to create your own books, stories or plays.      

Keeping Up With the Children (KUWC) – Key Stage 1, 2 or 3.
A 6 or 10 week course providing parents/carers with information about how children are taught literacy and numeracy in school and ways in which you can support their learning at home. Opportunities to brush-up your own skills and work towards a nationally recognised qualification too.    

Working Together
A 10 week introductory course for parents/carers who are interested in or who are currently helping/working in schools.  Sessions will include: the role of the teaching assistant, how children learn, supporting children’s learning, record keeping and creating learning resources.    

Funky Food
This 10 week course covers safety in the kitchen and planning and preparing healthy meals on a budget.  Opportunities to brush up your own numeracy skills through hands-on experience – estimating, measuring, budgeting, planning menus.    

Playing Together
A 10 week course focusing on speaking and listening skills, sharing books, music, rhythm and rhyme, puppets, games and how children learn through play.  Lots of craft activities enabling you to make resources to share with your children at home.    

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Specifically for those people whose first language is not English.  A course for adults and children who want to learn or improve their English for everyday life, work and study.
