The area between Nelson Road South and Nelson Road North for local residents has become a hot spot for recent accidents late at night as people are speeding more and anti-social behaviour is on the increase. 96k have spoken to a number of residents who did not wish to be identified due to fear of reprisals. Below are some of their concerns.
Local residents have told me that police take a long time to respond to calls depending on the day and time and police are not visible due to other priorities taking resources away and leaving the police prioritising most urgent calls first.
Local residents are worried that with the Government cuts there will not be enough officers to cover increasing problems in the local areas within Great Yarmouth. This may leave local people not wanting to venture out at night and take any risk of any thing happening if they do so. Tuesday 08/03/11 it was reported that the police across the country are going to lose 28,000 posts.
Local people risk their lives due to aggressive driving and put us all at risk on the streets because of their driving manner and not thinking about the outcome of their actions and drivers using side roads as race tracks. Local people in the area are more aware that trouble happens late at night and do not venture out due to a lack of police presence and lighting being inadequate in some places around Great Yarmouth.
Some areas of the town can be a night mare at weekends to local residents due to some people having had one too many and using cars and properties as a release for their built up energy and aggression and using the streets as a battle ground for disputes with other people of the night time community within Great Yarmouth.
