Great Yarmouth against Public Service Cuts

15 Dec 2010

Great Yarmouth Against public service cuts were out and about this morning outside the sixth form college. Braving another cold spell they handed out leaflets to the students. Whilst leaflets were handed out Lisa Community Reporter spoke to some of the students.

The students seems to have a relaxed view on what’s going on with the cut backs, either it's because Mom and Dad foot the bills or because the cuts have not reached them yet, but the norm here is that the cuts don’t effect them.

Students aged 16 to 19 will lose £10 to £30 a week EMA given to low-income families to cover college costs. EMA helps cover the costs of buying supplies for the course they are studying, which can be quite high. This could effectively mean thousands of young people not looking towards entering college in the future, once again leaving Britain without skilled people in years to come.
