Robin’s New Challenge
Acle-ite Robin Cushing, newly elected Chairman of the Norfolk Zipper Club, is on a mission to reach his target of £1 million by the year 2012—why?
The Norfolk Zipper Club is a charitable organisation which through various events raise monies to purchase life saving equipment for the Papworth Hospital. All of its members have had some form of life saving heart operation procedures which has left them with a trade mark scar on their chest, hence the name ZIPPER CLUB. The organisation has already raised over £900,000 and Robin’s ambition is to reach the £1 million by it’s 30th Anniversary in 2012.
The club organises various events to raise cash including Hog Roasts, Quiz & Chip nights and many other social events throughout the year. One of the most successful fund raising activities is Store Collections which has been successfully organ-ised by Peter Groom for many years. Thanks to the co-operation of some large local supermarkets, many thousands of pounds have been collected.
A recent acquisition of the club is a stunning eye catching red gazebo which can been seen at many outside events where a tombola is operated and information on the Zipper Club’s activities can be obtained.
