Southern villages SNT Updates

12 Jul 2010

Five motorists have been issued with fixed penalty notices as part of a crackdown on speeding in Belton.

More than 20 other motorists were sent warning letters and words of advice as a result of work carried out by the Southern Villages Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).

Speeding and parking in Belton was one of three priorities set by the Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel (SNAP) in March along with speeding and parking in Hopton and anti-social behaviour near the Fishermans Arms and Church Farm.

Panel members were updated on the teams’ progress against these priorities at the latest meeting on Monday, June 28, held at the John Green Institute in Belton.

Targeted patrols have been carried out on New Road and Bracon Road in the village to combat speeding and parking issues and words of advice have been given to parents in relation to parking.

In Hopton pupils from the local primary school assisted police in raising awareness of speeding by helping officers carry out speed checks.

About 12 pupils took part in two speed checks which resulted in one driver being stopped and spoken to by the pupils – the driver was also given strong words of advice from police.

Almost 10 drivers found speeding on Coast Road and Station Road were sent warning letters or issued with words of advice.

High-visibility patrols in the Fishermans Arms and Church Farm area have resulted in a reduction of anti-social behaviour.

Three new priorities were agreed at the meeting which the team will focus on over the next three months:

Targeted patrols to be carried out around the new play park on Seafields Drive, Hopton
Anti-social behaviour and littering at the Roman Fort in Burgh Castle and Potters Loke
Targeted patrols at the football park on Bell Lane, Belton
