Active Norfolk are asking villages across the County to assemble squads of players to compete in various different sports at the Great Yarmouth Village Games. People of all ages and sporting ability are invited to take part. The winners of the borough final will go on to compete in the County finals at the UEA Sportspark on the 4th September 2011, where villages will fight it out to be crowned the 'Best in Norfolk'.
Core Sports:
Archery – Senior and junior competitions. Up to 4 adults and 2 juniors may enter.
Badminton – Mixed doubles competition for anyone over 11. Ladies singles and Men's singles competition as well. Maximum of 2 teams per village (Up to 2 male, 2 females per team)
Darts- Single entries up to 4 per village, any age.
Five-a-side Football – Male senior competition. Junior 11-14 Teams of up to 7
Rounders – Mixed teams. A minimum of 9 players 3 of which must be aged under 16.
Short Mat Bowls – Mixed teams of up to 3. Max 2 teams per village. 9 years and over.
Table Tennis – Senior (16+) and junior (11-15) single competitions. Up to 2 adults and 2 juniors per village may compete.
Tennis – Senior (16+) Mixed Doubles. Up to 2 teams per village.
Watt Bikes Cycling Challenge- Teams of 3 (1 male, 1 female, 1 U16). One entry per village.
Entry Requirements:
1. Three sections of competition, one for small villages/parishes (electoral role population of 1250 or under); one
for medium villages/parishes (1251- 4250); larger villages/ market towns (4251 and over)
2. Up to 4 small adjoining villages/parishes may join together to form a team
3. Each village team must be selected from those who reside within the village or parish
4. A person may compete in the Archery and the Watt Bikes competition as well as another sport, although ideally a village
will have people for each activity. All the other sports will clash.
5. Senior competition means over 16 years and junior competition means under 16 years and over 8 years unless otherwise
stated.
6. Villages may enter the event with as many or as few team entries as they wish i.e. they may enter just one event or any
number up to the full nine.
7. A points system will be in place to decide the overall winning villages.
Once registered, villages across the borough will be offered taster sessions in up to 6 sports of their choice. You find a suitable venue and we'll supply the coaches - all free of charge.
